Nyima Samateh is a Legal Practitioner with over thirteen years of experience working with the Civil Society Organisation, the Judiciary and the Corporate Sectors respectively.
MS. Samateh currently works with the Standard Chartered Bank Gambia Limited where she served as in-House Legal Counsel in the Legal and Company Secretariat unit of the Banking, rising to the position of Acting Head of Legal and Company Secretary.
She has expertise in Corporate Law and Compliance matters and her role includes advising on various matters relating to compliance with the law, contracts, and other areas of Business and Commercial Law. She has a deep knowledge of both the substantive law and the evolving government regulations and has been successful in supporting the Bank in the negotiation of substantial corporate contracts, matters on governance and employment, dispute resolutions and litigation matters.
Ms. Samateh has also served on Short Term Assignments within the Standard Chartered Bank Group including Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
Prior to working with Standard Chartered Bank, she worked with the Judiciary of The Gambia where she served as First Class Magistrate rising to the rank of Senior Magistrate. During this time, she covered various jurisdictions such as the Kanifing Magistrates court, also serving as Chairperson of the Special Children’s Court, the Brikama Magistrates court, also overseeing the Special Narcotics court and the Banjul Magistrates court also serving as the Chairperson of the Labour Court.
Ms. Samateh also worked as the Coordinator of the Female Lawyers Association the Gambia (FLAG) in 2011, supporting in the promotion and protection of the rights of women, children and other vulnerable groups.
